Comments:

Saturday afternoon, Matt wrote me a funny message on OkCupid. I replied and we ended up instant messaging online. He invited me and my roommate to come to his friend's house party in my neighborhood (we live in the same hood) that night. We decided that I'd either fall in love with this guy on the spot or it would be horribly awkward, but make a great story over Sunday brunch.

What happened was something in between.

Matt's friends were super cool and welcoming. Matt, not so much. He greeted us at the door and then we barely saw him the rest of the night.  At one point I looked across the room and watched him gyrate to bad rap music while wielding a bottle of cheap vodka and pushing shots on his friends. No, I did not fall in love.

We stayed for two hours and made great friends with Matt's friends, but he never spoke more than one sentence to me.

As we put our coats to leave, he asked for a second date and I felt sad. Sad for him that he might really have thought this was an actual date. As I hugged his gay friend goodbye, he whispered in my ear, "I hope you find a man that treats you better than that."

Amen.
