76. October 2012: Will...You Not Share So Much?

How did you meet? online

Name: Will

Height: 5' 10"

Age: 35

Occupation: web desginer

Good quotes from date(s):

Him: I was out late last night with my barista.
Me: You have your own personal barista?
Him: No she works at the coffee shop I always go to.
Me: Baristas are people too.

Him:  I mean I'm not going impregnate the first girl I go out with, but I really want a family soon. I don't want to be a 40 yr old dad.

Me: I can't imagine there is a huge difference between being a 35 yr old dad and a 40 yr old one except for 5 years.

Why is he still single? An eager over-sharer.  (see comments)

Did he pay for the date? Yes - we had one drink each.

Did he contact you after the date? No

How many dates did you go on? 1

Would you recommend to a friend? Nope

In the ever-present trend of "men are the new women", this guy told me way too much about himself for a first date and much of it made me question his manhood.

In one breath Will told me all of his friends are married with kids and he wants to start a family, but then said he hates going to his best friend's house because his kid is too hyper. He was referring to a 3 yr old. I told him all 3 yr olds are hyper.

I'm a woman who still thinks I might want a kid before my eggs dry up, but it's not a burning desire enough for me to talk about on a first date. That should be saved for later dates - much later ones. However, I shouldn't have been too surprised because I knew this guy was an over-sharer.

How did I know? Well, we texted a few days before we met (all small talk, which I despise) and he kept sending me photos of his dinners and breakfasts that he made. They did look delicious but what was the point? I hate when people do it on Facebook...and it's much weirder when a man I've never met shares this via text.

On the date he also revealed that he is a total perfectionist, which says so much to me about a person. I try to do the best I can in life, but I'm old enough to know that striving for perfection only leads to disappointment. My ex was a perfectionist and as a result he judged me and everyone around him instead of dealing with his own insecurities. Not fun.

In the 1.2 hrs we talked I learned a lot about him and he didn't seem to be too interested in learning about me.  I heard all about how he decorated his new apartment, and how his kitchen is white with red accents based on a Le Cruset pot he bought. He loves to cook (hence the text photos). Don't get me wrong, cooking is a hot quality in a man, but telling a woman your decorating inspiration came from your crock pot (on the 1st date) is just too effeminate for my taste.
